A study of eloralintide in adults with persistent obesity or overweight who are currently treated with a weekly incretin medication

1 1

What is this study about?

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of a new medication called Eloralintide, also known as LY3841136. The research focuses on individuals living with Obesity, which is a condition involving excessive body fat, or being Overweight, which means having a body weight that is higher than what is considered healthy for a given height. The participants included in this study may or may not also have Type 2 Diabetes, a chronic condition that affects how the body processes blood sugar. Some individuals in the study are already using a weekly Incretin, which is a type of medication that helps regulate blood sugar and digestion.

During the study, participants will receive either Eloralintide or a placebo through subcutaneous use, which means the medication is injected into the fatty tissue just under the skin. The medication is provided in a pre-filled syringe for once-weekly administration. This is a randomized and double-blind study, meaning that neither the participants nor the researchers know beforehand which treatment is being administered. This method is used to ensure the results are as objective as possible.

Who Can Join the Study?

  • You must be taking a consistent dose of incretin therapy, which is a type of medication that helps control blood sugar and digestion.
  • You must be classified as having obesity or being overweight. This is measured using a Body Mass Index (BMI), which is a calculation of your weight compared to your height.
  • To qualify, your BMI must be 30 or higher, OR it must be 27 or higher if you also have at least one of the following health issues: hypertension (high blood pressure), dyslipidemia (unhealthy levels of fats or cholesterol in the blood), obstructive sleep apnea (a condition where breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep), cardiovascular disease (heart or blood vessel problems), or type 2 diabetes (a condition affecting how the body processes blood sugar).
  • Your body weight must be stable, meaning your weight has not changed by more than 5% recently.
  • This study is open to both males and females.

Who Cannot Join the Study?

  • You must not have had or be planning to have surgery, an endoscopic procedure (a medical test where a doctor uses a tiny camera on a tube to look inside your body), or any device-based therapy (using a medical tool or implant) to help with weight loss.
  • You must not have type 1 diabetes, which is a condition where the body cannot make the hormone needed to control blood sugar.
  • You must not have used certain medications for blood sugar within the last 90 days before joining the study.
  • You must not have had a serious heart condition (a significant problem with how your heart works) within the last 90 days before joining the study.

Investigated drugs:

Eloralintide is a medication administered through an injection under the skin. It is being studied to see how well it helps adults who are overweight or have obesity to lose body weight, both in people with and without type 2 diabetes.

Overweight – This condition occurs when a person has an accumulation of excess body fat that exceeds what is considered healthy for their height. It is often characterized by an increase in body mass index. The condition can progress if energy intake from food and drinks consistently remains higher than the energy used through physical activity. Over time, this imbalance can lead to further weight gain.

Obesity – This is a condition involving an excessive accumulation of body fat that reaches levels significantly higher than the healthy range. It is typically identified when the body mass index reaches a specific threshold. As the condition progresses, the amount of adipose tissue in the body increases. This buildup can affect various bodily functions and metabolic processes.
