This drug is an antibody that blocks the insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF-1R), which plays a key role in the inflammation and tissue expansion that occurs in thyroid eye disease. In Phase II and Phase III clinical trials, teprotumumab significantly reduced eye bulging, improved double vision, and decreased inflammation in a high percentage of patients. The treatment is given as an intravenous infusion every three weeks for a total of eight infusions.[8][11]
