A plain-language summary of the goals, design and what participants do
The study looks at people with EGFR mutated locally advanced or metastatic non‑small cell lung cancer, a type of lung cancer that has spread beyond the lungs and carries a specific genetic change that helps the tumor grow. The treatment being tested is a pill called TAGRISSO, whose active ingredient is osimertinib, taken by mouth.
The purpose of the study is to find out whether giving the medication less often (an extended dosing interval) works at least as well as the usual daily schedule. Participants will receive the drug on the new schedule and will have regular visits for safety checks and simple tests over a period of several months, without any additional procedures.
The main result the researchers will look at is progression‑free survival, which means the length of time the cancer does not get worse. They will also collect information on overall survival (how long participants live), side effects that patients notice themselves, the cost of treatment, quality of life (how well people feel day to day), the chance of cancer spreading to the brain (central nervous system metastases), and how easy it is for patients to follow the medication schedule.
The trial runs in 4 steps – from screening to follow-up. Each step says what happens and what the team monitors.

Osimertinib is a medication used to treat a specific type of lung cancer known as non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) that has certain mutations in the EGFR gene. It works by blocking the activity of the EGFR protein, which is involved in the growth and spread of cancer cells. In this clinical trial, researchers are studying whether taking osimertinib less frequently is as effective as the standard daily dosage. This could potentially make the treatment more convenient for patients while maintaining its effectiveness in controlling cancer growth.
