IRCCS Istituto Nazionale Tumori Fondazione Pascale

Gastrointestinal and Hepatobiliary Oncology

Research activity includes colorectal cancer, rectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, cholangiocarcinoma, hepatocellular carcinoma, and gastrooesophageal carcinoma. The portfolio also covers metastatic colorectal cancer, locally advanced pancreatic cancer, and metastatic pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.

  • RAS-mutant metastatic colorectal cancer
  • RAS/BRAF wild-type metastatic colorectal cancer
  • Locally advanced rectal cancer
  • Locally advanced cholangiocarcinoma

Interest also extends to organ-sparing treatment and neoadjuvant approaches in selected digestive tract malignancies.

Gynecologic and Breast Malignancies

The sponsor funds studies in ovarian cancer, fallopian tube cancer, primary peritoneal cancer, endometrial cancer, vulvar cancer, and breast pathology. This area includes both recurrent and advanced disease settings.

  • BRCA wild-type ovarian cancer
  • Recurrent ovarian cancer
  • Advanced endometrial cancer
  • Vulvar cancer

Research also addresses molecularly selected gynecologic tumors and maintenance strategies in ovarian cancer.

Thoracic, Head and Neck, and Prostate Cancer

Clinical work includes non-small cell lung cancer, including metastatic NSCLC and EGFR-mutated non-squamous disease, as well as carcinoma of the oral cavity and oropharynx and prostate cancer.

  • EGFR-mutated NSCLC
  • Metastatic NSCLC
  • Oral cavity and oropharyngeal carcinoma
  • Prostate cancer

Work in this field also includes quality of life and functional recovery outcomes in prostate cancer care.

Translational and Molecularly Defined Solid Tumors

Several trials focus on molecularly characterized advanced solid tumors, including disease defined by CXCR4 expression, BRCA status, ARID1A mutation, PIK3CA mutation, and FcγRIIIA selection. The research scope also includes advanced solid neoplasm across multiple primary sites.

  • CXCR4-positive advanced solid neoplasms
  • ARID1A-mutated gastrooesophageal carcinoma
  • PIK3CA-mutated endometrial cancer
  • BRCA-selected ovarian cancer

This area reflects sustained interest in biomarker-driven oncology and molecular stratification across tumor types.

Supportive Care, Imaging, and Locoregional Treatment

The sponsor also supports studies in cancer-related symptom control, pain management, and functional outcomes, alongside research in breast imaging and locoregional cancer treatment.

  • Opioid-treated advanced oncologic disease
  • Breast imaging and lesion characterization
  • Electrochemotherapy
  • Minimally invasive local treatment approaches

Additional interest is seen in symptom burden assessment, organsparing strategies, and diagnostic accuracy in breast pathology.
