The study is investigating the effects of a treatment using a medication called allopurinol sodium, which is being tested alongside standard care practices, including therapeutic cooling, to see if it can help reduce the risk of death or severe developmental problems in affected infants.

The purpose of the study is to determine if early treatment with allopurinol sodium can improve outcomes for newborns showing early signs of HIE. The study will compare the effects of this medication to a placebo, which is a substance with no active ingredients, to see if there is a significant difference in the health and development of the children at two years of age.
