Following this conversation, your doctor will perform a pelvic exam, which is a physical examination of your reproductive organs. During this exam, a tool called a speculum is inserted into the vagina to allow the doctor to see the vagina and cervix. The doctor will also insert one or two gloved, lubricated fingers into the vagina while pressing on your lower abdomen with the other hand to feel the size, shape, and position of your uterus and ovaries.
